Helene Alberdi, a triathlete from Zumaia, claimed victory in the Spanish Middle Distance Triathlon Championship held yesterday in Pamplona, with a time of 3:52:23.

Galician athlete María Vilas provided the race's surprise, taking the lead from the start in both the swimming and cycling segments. Alberdi reached the run portion in third place, but maintained a strong pace, overtaking Vilas on the second lap and finishing with confidence.

Behind Alberdi, Vilas finished two and a half minutes later (3:55:03) in second place, with the podium completed by Marina Muñoz from Segovia, who finished third (3:58:29).

A total of approximately 2,000 triathletes competed in the professional circuit. The event began with a 2-kilometer swim in the reservoir of Aoiz (Navarra), followed by an 80-kilometer cycling route through the challenging Navarrese roads to Pamplona, and finally, an 18-kilometer run through Pamplona's Old Town, concluding in Plaza del Castillo.
