Following the Gala Gaua last Saturday, Zumaia will celebrate Euskal Jai Eguna tomorrow. Residents will have already prepared their hats and skirts, and are eagerly awaiting Friday to immerse themselves once again in the festive atmosphere.
The dulzaineros from the Zumaia Music and Dance School will kick off the day at 9:00 AM from the town hall square. An hour later, at 10:00 AM, a market will open in the Old Town, and various music groups will perform throughout the streets.
“"There will be two balcony-to-balcony bertso sessions at midday: at 12:00 PM in the town hall and at 1:00 PM in the Cofradía. Miren Artetxe and Xabat Illarregi will be performing."
After the communal lunch, in the afternoon, there will be talos from 6:00 PM onwards in Odietan, and a cider tasting in Plaza Gurrutxaga. The dance performance by the group Laket will conclude the day's program at 10:30 PM in Plaza Amaia.
The program also includes music in the streets throughout the morning, and a song procession ('kantujira') organized by Larraina euskara taldea and Korokoiak taldea. In the afternoon, there will be a children's dance with Joxe Mendizabal and another with trikitilaris Jagoba and Maddalen in Plaza Eusebio Gurrutxaga.
