The Basque Government awards this certification to educational centers that integrate sustainability transversally into their educational projects and daily operations. To achieve this, schools must demonstrate their work and initiatives in developing the 2030 School Agenda, presenting specific evidence.
The evaluation considers various aspects, such as the incorporation of sustainability into the curriculum, the center's environmental management, active student participation, and the involvement of teachers, families, and other members of the educational community.
“"Educating in sustainability means educating in values, co-responsibility, and the capacity to transform the environment, starting from knowledge, participation, and commitment."
During the certification ceremony, the Minister of Education, Begoña Pedrosa, highlighted the significance of sustainability education. Currently, 137 educational centers in the Basque Autonomous Community hold the Sustainable School certification.
