For the third consecutive year, Zarautz will transform into the 'plaza of Basque letters' from May 29th to 31st with the Literaturia festival, featuring a book fair, presentations, and workshops.

As spring draws to a close, the Literaturia festival returns to Zarautz, aiming to establish it as the 'plaza of Basque letters'. This year's edition, running from May 29th to 31st, promises a packed schedule of events across various locations. The main book fair will be held at Lege Zaharren enparantza, with Saturday designated as the central fair day, showcasing Basque literature from different publishers and hosting book presentations.
In addition to the fair and presentations, a variety of workshops and events are scheduled throughout the weekend. Tickets for these events are already available on the Literaturia website and at the Modelo Aretoa ticket office. This year marks the 12th edition of the festival, themed 'Dar-Dar'.
As announced during the presentation, translator Maialen Berasategi will open the program on Friday, May 29th, at 8:00 PM in the Modelo Aretoa with the reading of her manifesto. Following this, at 8:15 PM, Imanol Epelde will present 'Zerbait sartu zait begian', a performance blending music and visuals.
On Saturday, the book fair will take place from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM and from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM in the tent at Lege Zaharren enparantza. Within the Ahotsenea space, several authors will present their works, including Amaia Aranzeta, Nahia Intxausti, Ibai Sarasua, Joxean Agirre, Maite Lopez Las Heras, Garbiñe Ubeda, Leire Mendiburu, Iñigo Roque, Aitziber Etxeberria, and Peio Iturralde.
Other events on Saturday include: at 11:00 AM, a writing workshop for young people at Etxezabala, led by the group Mejillon Tigre; at 12:00 PM, the Armiarma.eus portal will be recognized for its contribution to the dissemination of Basque literature in Lege Zaharren enparantza; followed at 12:30 PM by a tribute to the late Lurdes Iriondo; and at 8:15 PM, the group Habia will perform a concert to launch their latest album.
Sunday's program begins at 11:30 AM in the church of the Convent of Santa Clara, where Uxue Rey will interview Xabier Olarra, accompanied by music from Lide Hernando. The festival will conclude with a children's session: at 4:45 PM in the Modelo Aretoa, the show 'Klera' will be presented for ages 6-12, featuring the dance group Kukai and musician Maite Larburu.
Irune Urbieta, Zarautz's councilor for Euskera and Culture, praised the organizers' efforts, stating, "The council is delighted with the work you do to promote Basque literature," and assured continued municipal support. The organizers extend an invitation to all Basque literature enthusiasts from the Basque Country to visit Zarautz during the last weekend of May.
