The Azpeitia City Council has announced that work to adapt the meeting point on Done Jakue street will begin next Monday, April 14, later than initially anticipated.

This area, located between the Frontoi Txikia and the playground, became vacant after the fall of the Gernika tree sapling on November 22, 2023. The council then decided to transform it into a "comfortable meeting point" for residents of the Old Town.
The project's design was developed through an "innovative" participatory process, involving collaboration between various municipal departments and users of the area, such as the Ilunpe pelota association, Marea Urdina, and Old Town residents. This process, supported by OinHerri and Hiritik At, was carried out in the autumn of 2024.
The works, set to begin on Monday, have a budget of 84,872 euros, and the city council expects them to be completed within two and a half months. The transformation aims to create an "open space," described as "unobstructed, multifunctional, and welcoming."
The area will feature a shelter attached to the Frontoi Txikia, and the space itself will be "slightly enlarged" by removing some parking spots. Seating, plants, bleachers, and a ping-pong table will also be installed. Additionally, the ground will be "modified and leveled" to improve accessibility.
