The protest, organized by the ELA and LAB unions, took place in the town center under the slogan 'Against the destruction of jobs'. Union representatives described the company's actions as a disguised layoff process, criticizing the management for their lack of willingness to negotiate.
The workers' committee stated that alternative proposals, such as early retirement or voluntary departures, were rejected by the management. Consequently, the protesters have called for greater institutional involvement to guarantee the future of the local facility.
The demonstration occurred amidst significant union division. CCOO, UGT, and USO declined to support the mobilization, issuing a statement that criticized the confrontational strategy adopted by the organizing unions.
