Significant reinforcement and adaptation works are set to commence at Orio's fishing pier in the coming months, a project spearheaded by the Basque Government to enhance its stability and functionality in response to rising sea levels.

The construction will focus on the section between the pedestrian walkway and the Fishermen's Guild, carried out by the company Moyua. The project has three main objectives: to improve the pier's structural stability, to adapt the infrastructure to rising sea levels by elevating it 50 centimeters, and to increase the overall functionality of the port area.
This area is vital for the municipality, serving both the local fishing fleet and numerous pedestrians in their daily routines.
According to the Orio City Council's projections, the works are estimated to last between six and eight months and will be executed in phases, leading to varying traffic disruptions.
Due to an anticipated increase in truck traffic, residents are advised to use the access routes to the municipality via Txanka beach to alleviate congestion in the town center. The Orio City Council will provide regular updates on the progress of the works and any potential impacts.
