In the coming weeks, the 15 social housing units located at number 6 on Nicolás Ormaetxea Street in Sestao will be ready to welcome families. The Sestao City Council has completed the final bureaucratic step by granting the first occupancy license for these apartments.
This housing development has been promoted by the Department of Housing and Urban Agenda of the Basque Government, which has invested over 1.3 million euros to make these apartments a reality. The aim is to facilitate access to housing for the most modest families, with the units being delivered under a rental regime. This initiative is part of the urban and social rehabilitation project underway in the Txabarri and El Sol areas of Sestao.
“"The Sestao City Council wishes to highlight its institutional commitment to continue promoting affordable rental housing, especially in a context where access to housing has become one of the main concerns of citizens."
The creation of these fifteen protected rental apartments is just a small part of a more ambitious project where the Basque Government and the Sestao City Council have joined forces. As part of the urban and social rehabilitation process in this area of Sestao, for example, the 8 de Marzo and Vicente Díez squares have been created, designed to be meeting and socialization points for the entire Txabarri neighborhood.
Furthermore, this project has sought to generate a substantial improvement in accessibility. To this end, three elevators have been installed, aiming to create a Txabarri-El Sol with fewer barriers and greater accessibility for all people, regardless of their physical condition.
