Orio City Council has launched a new 100 kW solar power installation at Zaragueta School, intended to supply municipal buildings.

As part of the 2020-2030 Energy Plan approved by the Orio City Council in 2019, measures continue to be implemented to reduce energy consumption and increase self-consumption in municipal facilities. In the last five years, eight photovoltaic installations have been established, the most recent located at the Zaragueta Public School.
To carry out the work, the City Council received 35,000 euros from the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa and 56,470 euros from the Basque Energy Agency. The installed facility, with a capacity of 100 kW, is the largest in Orio to date.
The work began last summer, taking advantage of the school's closure. Now, after the testing and adjustment phase in recent weeks, the installation is operational. The City Council has explained that, in total, it will supply twenty municipal facilities, including the City Hall, Arraunetxe, and the Culture House.
The objective is to meet the planned 40% reduction in consumption by 2030 and achieve 25% self-consumption.
