Last Wednesday, the Azkoitia Town Council held its ordinary April plenary session, where councillors from EAJ, EH Bildu, the citizen platform Azkoitia Bai, and PSE-EE reviewed a nine-point agenda. All proposals put forward by the municipal government were approved, including the initiation of the procedure to contract the home care assistance service and the approval of two additional credits, one for 935,000 euros and another for 100,000 euros.
These additional credits generated the most debate. The town's mayor explained that these were the second and third additional credits of the year, as the first had been approved by mayoral decree weeks prior. The mayor specified that the division into two additional credits was made at the request of EH Bildu, even though it was not the usual practice.
“"We believe it is good news that funds are being allocated to projects we have been working on in recent months, because it shows a willingness to collaborate and to carry out commitments. For us, it is not all or nothing."
The 935,000 euro additional credit included several items: 31,000 euros to pay an outstanding 2024 invoice related to municipal building cleaning, 3,000 euros for an additional subsidy to Maxixatzen, 300,000 euros to remove the Txalonerreka post, 500,000 euros for the works on the San Martín car park, and 100,000 euros for the Ostatu service building project requested by Azkoitia Bai. The other 100,000 euro additional credit was allocated to repairing the church roof.
Azkoitia Bai set two conditions for supporting the additional credits: allocating 100,000 euros to the Ostatu service and committing to agree on priorities among all parties. The mayor accepted the first request but rejected the second, which was the request to agree on the order of projects with opposition parties. Given the rejection of this condition, the mayor did not expect Azkoitia Bai's support, but the platform voted in favor of both additional credits, including the church roof repair, despite EH Bildu's initial reluctance to support it.
