Leioa, a municipality in Bizkaia, has once again become a significant hub for the film industry with the shooting of the movie "Rafaela". The film is produced by Baleuko, 11 Varas, 100 Acres, and La Claqueta PC, in co-production with the Belgian producer Caviar. It is being filmed in Basque and features the participation of EITB and RTVE, along with funding from the Basque Government and the Provincial Council of Bizkaia.
Iban Rodríguez Etxebarria, the mayor of Leioa, accompanied by the councilors for Culture and Economic Promotion, Estibaliz Bilbao and Chelo Castellanos, visited the Artatza Palace this morning; one of the chosen locations for the filming of "Rafaela". The film is directed by Alba Lozano and revisits the story of Rafaela Ybarra, a pivotal figure in the social history of Bizkaia.
The film is set in various locations across the Basque Country, including Leioa, and brings to the screen the life of Rafaela Ybarra, recognized for her commitment to vulnerable women and girls and her social work in the late 19th century.
The presence of this film shoot in Leioa presents an excellent opportunity to highlight the municipality's historical and architectural heritage, particularly that of the Artatza Palace.
