The Trapagaran City Council has unanimously approved an increase in the economic allocation for neighborhood festivals, a measure proposed by PNV and EH Bildu to support festival committees amidst the general rise in living costs.

During yesterday morning's plenary session, the Trapagaran City Council unanimously approved an increase in the budget for neighborhood festivals. This initiative, put forward by PNV and EH Bildu, also received support from council members of PSE and Elkarrekin Podemos. The aim is to enable the municipality's festival committees to organize activities with greater assurance, by updating their subsidies, in the current context of a general increase in the cost of living.

"The festival committees had been reporting for some time that it was increasingly difficult to organize festivals with current resources, and it was reasonable to provide a response. We are satisfied that the proposal has gone ahead, because it responds to a real need of the neighborhoods and those who sustain the festivals."

The increase in subsidies will be significant across several neighborhoods. Funding for the Ugarte festivals will rise from 17,000 euros annually to 22,000 euros. Meanwhile, for La Arboleda, the annual amount for organizing festivals will increase from 22,000 to 24,000 euros.
Finally, the festival committees of San Gabriel, Zaballa, Elguero, and Larreineta will also see a notable increase in their aid, moving from the current 12,000 euros annually to 15,000 euros. Despite this, the Jeltzales of Trapagaran regretted that this measure “comes late, and that has consequences: it was not possible to increase the amount for the Zaballa festivals, which are celebrated during the May long weekend, thus losing an opportunity to support that neighborhood in time.”
