The Itsaslur promenade in Muskiz, one of the most charming routes in the municipality connecting the neighborhoods of Pobeña and Kobaron along the coast, is set to receive a new look. The Provincial Council of Bizkaia, through a subsidy, will invest more than 260,000 euros to rehabilitate this popular path. Over time, adverse weather conditions and the challenging local geology have caused cracks and subsidence in the pavement, deterioration of urban furniture, and blockages in numerous transverse drainage systems.
Consequently, a contract has been put out to tender to repair the access road to the Itsaslur parking area from the Kobaron parking, replace deteriorated railings, restore blocked transverse drainage works to ensure proper gutter drainage, and finally, implement a new drainage system to resolve a specific issue on the promenade. According to project documentation, this spot experiences «waterlogging that covers the entire path and lacks natural drainage capacity».
The works, scheduled for a six-month period, will be carried out in phases, including a diversion of the Camino de Santiago via an alternative route. Initially, the Greenway will be closed from the Pobeña access point to the Laspra area. During this first phase, the section up to Kobaron will remain open to pedestrians, but it will be closed later in the second phase; at that point, the first section will reopen.
“"The objective is to rehabilitate the Itsaslur promenade, reinforce safety with new fencing, and leave everything in perfect condition."
The mayor, Eduardo Briones, stated that the goal of these works is «to rehabilitate the Itsaslur promenade, reinforce safety with new fencing, and leave everything in perfect condition». The new appearance of the route is expected to be ready «by the end of the year».
