The Basque Government has inaugurated the renovated Early Childhood and Primary Education center CEIP Garazi in Legutio, following a 2.7 million euro investment, providing more modern and accessible spaces.

The Minister of Education, Begoña Pedrosa, accompanied by the Mayor of Legutio, Nerea Bengoa, and guided by the director, Maider Etxeberria, visited CEIP Garazi after the completion of its rehabilitation works. An open day was held in the afternoon for families to experience firsthand the building's transformation and the improvements made.

"With this intervention, we have managed to redistribute and expand the center's spaces to meet current needs, creating more usable, flexible, and adapted spaces for educational uses."

Pedrosa emphasized that this marks progress in an important challenge for the Department: the comprehensive renovation of educational centers built decades ago, especially in the 70s and 80s. The goal is to update these buildings to ensure safer, more efficient spaces prepared for the current educational model. The works have improved accessibility to all spaces, both indoor and outdoor, and enhanced connections between different areas of the center.
The building, organized into three floors, now integrates more versatile and connected spaces. The ground floor houses the administration area, early childhood education spaces, and an area for the educational community, with direct access to the patios. The upper floor contains primary classrooms and common areas such as the library, computer room, music room, or multi-purpose rooms.
The intervention had a budget of 2,689,796.20 euros, covering an area of 1,630 square meters, executed between August 2024 and January 2026. The south facade was also rehabilitated with solar protection systems and thermal insulation, and all carpentry was completely replaced, aiming to create a more efficient and suitable learning environment.
This reform is part of the Hezkuntza Eraiki 2030 strategy, with a global budget of 750 million euros, aiming to transform the educational infrastructure of the public system. The Department of Education thus promotes spaces designed to foster innovative methodologies, encourage collaboration, and improve the educational experience of students, understanding centers as key environments for learning, well-being, and equity.
Meanwhile, the Mayor of Legutio explained that in January 2025, they saw an opportunity to promote four energy efficiency actions to reduce emissions and improve the ikastola's energy rating. The investment made by the City Council amounted to 132,192.46 euros, and the works were completed in January 2026. CEIP Garazi is a public center that enrolls approximately 200 students in Early Childhood and Primary Education, across two lines.
