The Enkarterri Fest, taking place this weekend in the gardens of the Town Hall in Zalla, will pay tribute to Enkarterri's products and traditional gastronomy, with a special focus on the putxera and local produce. This event is one of the main gastronomic gatherings in the Las Encartaciones region, and this year it will honor one of the groups dedicated to preserving the culinary legacy of one of the area's most iconic dishes, the railway pots (ollas ferroviarias). This group is the Cofradía de la Putxera de Balmaseda (Putxera Brotherhood of Balmaseda), which will be named ambassador in 2026. They will also have a dedicated space and host two gastronomic tastings.
The purple onion from Zalla will once again take center stage, as will the Cuatro Valles association and El Bierzo region from León. Organizers highlight its botillo, cecina, and mountain meats, along with Mencía wines, roasted peppers, and 'all kinds of fruits, vegetables, and nuts'. This event, sponsored by EL CORREO, will feature several 'gastrolugares' (gastronomic spots) offering a variety of food and drinks, from beer and tacos to vermouth and gildas, seafood and cava, cider and chorizo, focaccia and kombucha; sushi, beans, and various wines.
Stands will also be available for purchasing products, and various guided tastings will be held on both Saturday and Sunday, alongside tastings of 'Fontañinas' pastries, artisan liqueurs, and honey. As a new feature this year, a DJ will liven up the atmosphere from 4:30 PM on Saturday until the evening, allowing all attendees to enjoy the afternoon vibe.
There will also be activities for children, including free workshops to learn how to make pizzas, chorizo tortas, talos, mini-burgers, and banana bread, among other dishes. The festival will be complemented by a pintxos route through several establishments in Zalla that have prepared special bites for the occasion.
