The damage occurred across two buildings of the ikastola: several windows and doors were broken, a bathroom was blown up, and walls were vandalized with paint, among other damages.
The Local Police have begun investigating the incident and have appealed to the public for any information to clarify what happened. The perpetrators clearly knew how to gain access and where to find materials for vandalism, as doors were smashed and windows broken with small hammers.
While previous instances of damage have occurred at the ikastola, the severity of these recent events has escalated. The blown-up bathroom was reportedly caused by a firecracker, which could have led to a more serious outcome.
“"This is a serious attack on the entire ikastola community, and it is unacceptable. We are facing an attack against a public asset belonging to everyone, and such incidents have no place in our town."
The attack, carried out while the town was celebrating, has been described as "painful and incomprehensible," particularly given that it occurred in an educational space that promotes values such as respect, solidarity, and coexistence.
The mayor of Usurbil, Agurtzane Solaberrieta Mesa, stated that while the festivities were generally successful, the incidents at the ikastola have somewhat soured that positive assessment.
