The Ertzaintza arrested a 30-year-old man in Pasai Antxo early Tuesday morning for allegedly attempting to run over two youths and threatening them with a knife. The victims, aged 15 and 19, told officers that the vehicle involved mounted the pavement they were walking on at high speed, forcing them to flee to avoid being hit.
Subsequently, the assailant abandoned the vehicle and approached the youths with a bladed weapon in hand, issuing death threats. All individuals involved are of North African origin.
The assailant was reportedly in a serious conflict with a relative of one of the victims.
An Ertzaintza unit dispatched to the scene managed to locate and identify the perpetrator in the vicinity. He is a local resident who, according to the Basque Department of Security, was in a serious conflict with a relative of one of the victims.
The attacker has been detained, accused of aggravated threats with a bladed weapon and attempted vehicular assault. The Ertzaintza is continuing its investigation, and the detainee will be brought before the judicial authorities once the relevant police proceedings are concluded.
