The Hernani-based company Maykolux has been awarded, once again, the service for installing and maintaining Oñati's Christmas lighting. Work is expected to begin soon so that everything is ready by December 3rd, the day the lights will be switched on. They will remain lit until January 7th, both at dusk and dawn: from dusk until midnight and from 7 AM until sunrise.
The number and location of elements from last year will be maintained. The usual light arches will be installed in Kale Zaharra, Atzeko kalea, and Kale Barria. The Christmas message will also be readable on the Town Hall's facade. Additionally, the kiosk in Errementari square will be illuminated, as well as the trees in the square and decorative lights will be placed on the trees in San Lorenzo. On Bakardadeko Ama street, the tree at the crossroads in front of Maibi will also be lit, similar to the one in Bidaurreta. Furthermore, other decorations will be installed in the neighborhoods of Olakua and San Lorenzo.
Three companies that carry out such work were asked to submit a proposal and budget, but only one offer was received below the maximum price set by the Council: that of Maykolux. The budget for assembly, disassembly, and maintenance work, as well as the rental of decorative elements, is 18,125 euros, the same amount as last year.
The end-of-year weeks are usually very busy for companies that install Christmas lights, as they receive calls and orders from many towns for the same period. Last year, they started decorating the town in October; this year has not been the case, but work is expected to begin soon. The Council has also set a deadline for the removal of all elements in the contract, which will be January 17th, 2027.
