The municipalities forming the Debagoiena Commonwealth have presented a decalog created within the framework of the project «Weaving Debagoiena: Untying the Knot of Loneliness». Welfare councilors from the region introduced this new guide and support tool aimed at citizens.
This project is part of the I Action Plan of the Hariak Strategy (2022-2027), with the aim of joining forces, aware of the challenges and responsibilities of the region's municipalities. As explained, the objective is to build an ecosystem to address different forms of loneliness, facilitating coordination among stakeholders.
“"Loneliness is not a matter of age or an individual problem; it is a personal but universal experience, and it is the responsibility of all society. Loneliness can be prevented and alleviated if the community is mobilized and mutual care is activated."
The presented decalog will be distributed door-to-door in all homes in Debagoiena, to offer citizens a practical and accessible tool. The guide includes 10 recommendations arising from citizen participation, such as starting with basics, paying attention to those around us, improving existing relationships, offering practical help, and listening to others.
It also proposes fostering mutual support relationships, breaking the stigma of vulnerability, understanding loneliness (recognizing it affects all ages), taking a step, and participating in municipal life. To conclude, municipal representatives posed a reflective question to all citizens: «To untie the knot of loneliness, what piece will you contribute?».
