URA and the Artziniega City Council have signed an agreement to execute the sewage collector project between Gordéliz and Artziniega, aiming to improve environmental quality.

The Basque Water Agency (URA) and the Artziniega City Council have signed a cooperation agreement to carry out the planned works for the "Artziniega Sewage Collector Project. Gordéliz – Artziniega Section". This strategic activity will eliminate direct discharges and existing septic tanks, modernizing essential water cycle infrastructure in the municipality. URBIDE will manage and maintain these new infrastructures.
The agreement was signed by the Director General of URA, Asier López Etxebarria, and the Mayor of Artziniega, Joseba Vivanco Retes. Both emphasized the importance of inter-institutional collaboration to advance local hydraulic infrastructure. With this work, URA takes another step towards fulfilling the provisions of the Framework Agreement for the financing and execution of hydraulic infrastructures in the Historical Territory of Álava.
The intervention will bring a decisive improvement to the municipality's environmental health by eliminating direct discharges into the Herrerías river and replacing small septic tanks with a modern and efficient system for collecting and conveying wastewater, thereby reducing health risks and improving the quality of the environment.
Thanks to this action, discharges from the population centers of Gordéliz, La Venta, San Antonio, and La Teja will be integrated into the municipal network. A new collector, 2,500 meters long, will be installed, and part of the water supply and distribution network will be renewed, including the raw water conveyance section from the Artziniega reservoir to the pumping station.
An investment of 4.98 million euros is projected. The Basque Water Agency will undertake the contracting, technical direction, and full financing of the works, with an execution period of 12 months. The Artziniega City Council, for its part, will provide the necessary land and will receive ownership of the infrastructure upon completion.
