The town of Zarautz is busy with preparations for the upcoming Basque Festival Day on September 9th. A full-day program has been arranged, designed for the enjoyment of residents of all ages. The streets will be filled with people dressed in traditional Basque farmer attire, creating a festive atmosphere.
The festivities will kick off early in the morning with a 'diana' (morning wake-up call), followed by a wide range of musical performances, food, drinks, and games. The schedule also includes a high mass, a cart competition, and a parade of floats.
One of the highlights this year will be a performance by the theater group Alproja. They will present their show 'Asko genuen esateko' at 12:00 PM in the Lizardi aretoa. The venue was changed from its originally planned location in the Zelai Ondo neighborhood due to ongoing works in Munoa.
The detailed program includes various specific events, such as morning 'dianas' and street parades, the main mass at the Franciscan church, pelota games and traditional Basque sports at the Frontoi Txiki, wooden games in Torre Luzea park, and 'romerias' (traditional folk gatherings) at several locations, including Musika Plaza and Lege Zaharren Enparantza.
In the afternoon, there will be children's games in Iñurritza, along with several 'romerias' and DJ sets, including performances by Muxutruk and DJ Irati in the 'txosna' (food stall) area. The evening will conclude with a dance performance by the group Bide Batez and 'trikitilaris' (traditional Basque accordion players) at Lege Zaharren Enparantza and Musika Plaza.
