The Zarautz Municipal Euskaltegi has opened enrollment for the 2026-27 academic year, under the slogan 'Euskara pauso batera'. The new academic year will feature in-person Basque language classes and a self-study service. In-person groups will cover levels up to C1, while the self-study system will cater to all levels.
Additionally, sessions for retirees, the AISA-Harrera course for newcomers, and reinforcement classes for ESO (Compulsory Secondary Education) young people from outside the town have been organized. Citizens will also have the opportunity to participate in the Mintzalagun program.
The enrollment period will be open until September 19th, from Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 19:00. Interested individuals can visit the Euskaltegi at Iturribide kalea, 28-30, call 943-13 11 53 or 943-83 50 84, or email euskaltegia@zarautz.eus.
In-person sessions will last two hours. Basic levels (A1 and A2) will have four weekly sessions, Monday to Thursday; while levels B1, B2, and C1 will have three sessions per week, on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Morning, afternoon, and evening schedules will be available.
The self-study system utilizes the digital platform EuskaraOn, allowing students to learn from home. Basic level students will receive a one-hour weekly tutorial, while others will have a tutorial every two weeks. Tutorials can be conducted in person or online. Furthermore, students will have a weekly conversation session of one to one and a half hours, and C2 level students will meet weekly with their tutor.
To promote Basque language learning, the council is introducing the Euskara Bonoa (Basque Voucher), a new initiative within its scholarship system. Students starting at levels A0, A1, and A2 will pay €120 in their first year, after which they will receive hourly credits based on their starting level to cover course costs until they reach level B1A2.
Additionally, the council will refund 75% of the tuition fee to citizens taking a course, and 100% to the unemployed who attend 80% of the classes. Large families and single-parent families will receive a 50% discount, and those with a social tariff will get a 100% discount.
The HABE agency will also provide support for the 2026-27 academic year, particularly for students at levels A1 and A2 and for those aged 16 to 18 aiming for C1. Furthermore, individuals who pass HABE exams or achieve up to level B2 can apply for financial aid.
