Basque skater Egoitz Bijueska has once again been crowned World Champion in the skate discipline, as part of the World Roller Games held in Asunción, Paraguay. The 15-year-old from Bilbao scored 94.50 points in the final, dazzling the audience with his style and perfect execution of tricks.
This marks Bijueska's second world gold medal, following his victory last spring in Sao Paulo. His performance in Asunción was flawless, achieving the highest scores in the quarter-finals (94.33) and semi-finals (94.60). International media are already comparing his talent to legends like Tony Hawk.
In the final, the silver medal went to American Tom Schaar (93.07 points) and the bronze to Brazilian Gui Khury (92.15 points). Bijueska acknowledged that the level of competition has significantly increased and that any of the eight finalists could have won.
Following this victory, Bijueska will return to California to continue training with the best athletes in the sport and prepare for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, where he aims to reach the podium.
Meanwhile, Naia Laso, also a Basque Team athlete, secured a commendable fifth place in the women's final. The skater from Bermeo achieved a top score of 78.83. The gold medal went to young Japanese skater Mizuho Hasegawa (91.00), silver to British skater Sky Brown (89.50), and bronze to another Japanese skater, Cocona Hiraki (88.50).
Laso, who previously competed in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, finishing seventh despite back problems, is now well-positioned for Olympic qualification for the California Games.
