Organized by Global Sumud Euskal Herria and the platform Palestinarekin Elkartasuna, a large demonstration marched through Bilbao from Plaza Eliptica to Plaza Arriaga. Participants denounced the Ertzaintza and the Basque Government as accomplices of Zionism under the slogan "Zionism destroy, Palestine liberate!".
The criticism stems from Saturday's events at Loiu airport, where a forceful intervention by the Ertzaintza against members of the Global Sumud Flotilla initiative and their relatives was reported, resulting in several injuries and four arrests. Images of these events have circulated widely.
During the march, protesters whistled at police patrols and chanted slogans such as "Boycott Israel, Free Palestine" and "EAJ (Basque Nationalist Party), Zionist". In a press conference held at the Plaza Arriaga, organizers stated that the police intervention "sought to cut off solidarity" and demanded accountability.
Furthermore, they highlighted alleged economic and business ties between the Ertzaintza and Israeli companies such as Verint Systems and Excem. They also noted that airport security services are provided by I-SEC, a subsidiary of the Israeli company ICTS.
The organizers stated that the police's conduct demonstrates Israel's "true fascist nature" and accused the Basque Government of being "complicit in Zionism" by continuing to facilitate Israeli torture. They concluded by calling for unity to confront the ongoing massacre faced by the Palestinian people.
