The Roman Pintxo Route kicks off this Friday, July 10th, in Irun, as part of the 16th edition of the Dies Oiassonis Roman Festival. Twenty hospitality establishments have joined this initiative, where 20 miniature pintxos inspired by ingredients from ancient Rome will be available. The route will run until Sunday, July 19th, allowing citizens to enjoy miniature cuisine with suggestive names such as "Porcus cucúrbita", "Volcanus", or "Máximo I".
This route has established itself as a way to connect with history through gastronomy, reinforcing the link between heritage, culture, and local economic activity. Nuria Alzaga, deputy mayor and delegate for City Impulse and Economic Promotion, highlighted the initiative's value: "The Roman Pintxo Route is a good example of how a cultural festival transcends its own programming to generate economic activity, attract visitors, and fill our hospitality establishments with life." She also thanked the creativity and involvement of the participating establishments.
As a new feature this year, the route's brochure will include a QR code to consult the locations of the 20 participating establishments via a digital map. Additionally, the venues will display an identifying sign for the route and a photograph of their gastronomic offering.
In addition to the Roman Pintxo Route, the gastronomic offerings of the Dies Oiassonis festival will be complemented by the "Isicia Omentata" gastronomic contest on July 16th, and gastronomic days on the 17th with David Chamorro, Carlos Casillas, and Kike Gallardo. Following this, the Roman dinner with show "Convivium in circus romanus" will take place, with tickets available on the municipal website.
The Dies Oiassonis Roman Festival, after fifteen editions, continues to be one of the main summer cultural events in Irun, offering citizens the opportunity to enjoy the archaeological heritage and history of ancient Oiasso in an enjoyable and different way. Theatrical performances, gastronomic experiences, a market, and recreations aim to disseminate history and heritage in a didactic and festive manner.
