The Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council is organizing 'Shopping Escape Zaramaga' on September 19th, a playful and participatory event to discover the neighborhood and its establishments.

The streets of Zaramaga will be transformed into a large game stage on September 19th with a scavenger hunt that will tour the vicinity of 13 shops and hospitality establishments in the neighborhood. Participants will need to solve enigmas, find clues, and overcome challenges using a mobile application.
This initiative is part of the Zaramaga Regeneration Plan, aimed at revitalizing the area. The event seeks to introduce the local history and heritage through play and citizen participation, while promoting local consumption and reinforcing the neighborhood's identity.
The scavenger hunt will take place during the Zaramaga festivities. The start will be from the pergola of the children's park in Plaza Amurrio from 10:00 AM onwards, and teams will have 75 minutes to complete the route. Groups can consist of 2 to 6 people. At 1:30 PM, in the same square, prizes will be awarded to the fastest team, along with a raffle for participants.
Miren Fernández de Landa, councilor for Open Government and Civic Centers, stated, "We want Zaramaga to be experienced, discovered, and enjoyed in a different way, with commerce and hospitality being a fundamental part of that experience." She added, "This initiative allows us to combine participation, leisure, technology, and knowledge of the neighborhood with a clear objective: to generate activity and highlight the commercial fabric that is essential for Zaramaga's economic, social, and neighborhood life."
Patricia García, manager of Gasteiz On (responsible for technical coordination), highlighted that the project is "the perfect excuse to approach the neighborhood" because "behind each establishment, there is economic activity, employment, and people." She also noted that the initiative provides a digital tool that revitalizes the neighborhood not just for a day but over time, reaching a younger, digitally-savvy audience, as well as families.
‘Shopping Escape Zaramaga’ aims to revitalize the neighborhood from a comprehensive perspective, where local commerce and hospitality play a strategic role not only for their economic importance but also for their capacity to foster encounters and coexistence. Fernández de Landa explained that "the regeneration of an area involves not only transforming its physical spaces but also ensuring its streets are vibrant, its businesses are visible, and new people discover the neighborhood."
The proposal will remain active for one year through the mobile application, although prizes will only be awarded to those who participate on September 19th. This will allow residents and visitors to experience it at any time, continuing to discover the participating establishments, hospitality, and points of interest in the neighborhood.
