“"We want to remind everyone of the importance of riding in authorized areas, respecting the usage conditions of electric scooters, and avoiding behaviors that put at risk both those who ride them and other public road users. We will continue to promote control campaigns like this one to raise awareness about safety in the use of these vehicles."

The Vitoria-Gasteiz Local Police has released a report on a special control campaign for personal mobility vehicles (VMP), which resulted in 99 vehicles being inspected and 52 fines being issued.
During the 11 controls conducted from October 1st to 4th and from October 12th to 18th, 46 drivers were sanctioned, accumulating a total of 52 fines. The most common infraction was the lack of a license plate, with 20 fines, followed by riding in pedestrian zones, with 19.
Additionally, 4 fines were issued for not using a helmet, 3 for carrying two or more people on a single vehicle, 2 for lacking insurance, another 2 for driving under the age of 15, and one each for using headphones and for a positive alcohol test.
The campaign coincided with the entry into force of new traffic regulations for VMPs. Drivers have been warned and informed about the new requirements, but no fines were issued for these specific new violations.
The new regulations include the use of luminous or reflective elements when riding at night or in low visibility conditions, and the obligation to wear a reflective vest for those using VMPs for professional activity.
