“"We understand the residents' complaints, as they are the ones facing these parking difficulties. Motorhomes can park like any other vehicle, but they must do so respecting the marked bays. That's why we are going to strengthen controls to prevent these situations."

The Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council will reinforce control over improper motorhome parking in the Arriaga car park, enhancing coordination with the Local Police and penalizing those who breach municipal regulations.
This measure aims to address the disturbances caused to residents, particularly when these vehicles occupy more space than permitted and hinder parking for other users. The issue has intensified since November 2025, with the introduction of fees at the Lakua-Arriaga motorhome area. Since then, the council has observed a decrease in users within the designated area and an increase in motorhomes parked in the external car park, where no payment is required.
Due to their size, some of these vehicles extend beyond the marked bays, encroaching on adjacent spaces and reducing parking availability for other vehicles. The Traffic Ordinance permits motorhomes to park anywhere in the city, provided they respect the dimensions of the parking bays and established conditions. Consequently, control efforts will focus on vehicles violating these rules. So far this year, the Local Police have already issued 31 fines in this area for non-compliant parking.
In addition to intensifying surveillance, the City Council is exploring the possibility of completing the enclosure of the Lakua-Arriaga motorhome area, which was renovated in September 2024 with an access control system and new services. Although vehicles must enter the area through a regulated system, there are currently open zones that allow the use of certain services, such as water disposal, without entering the paid area. A more complete enclosure would prevent such uses and improve the functionality of the facilities.
