Gasteiz is thus positioned as the brand's first industrial center for the manufacturing of this model, the first developed on the new VAN.EA electric architecture.
The company has invested over 1 billion euros to transform the Alava plant to adapt it for the next generation of electric vans and MPVs, with a projected capacity of up to 150,000 units annually.
The VLE is a large electric vehicle, designed for family, professional, and high-end transport. It will feature seven and eight-seater versions, a range of over 700 kilometers, 800-volt technology, and fast charging.
Production will commence with the VLE 300 and VLE 400 4MATIC versions, with new variants expected in the coming years, including a more accessible version and a more luxurious one under the VLS designation.
The new model will coexist in Vitoria with the Vito, Clase V, and eVito, thanks to flexible manufacturing that will allow different models and powertrains to be produced on the same line according to demand.
The start of production will also impact the workforce of approximately 5,000 employees, who plan to boost activity with temporary staff and activate a third shift starting July 13.
The project has received 157 million euros in public subsidies for the transformation towards electric vehicles.
