A man was arrested on Thursday evening in Vitoria-Gasteiz as the alleged perpetrator of a theft, after stealing a backpack from minors in the Zabalgana neighborhood and being located thanks to the geolocation of the stolen mobile phone.

The incident took place in the Zabalgana neighborhood of Vitoria-Gasteiz shortly before 8:00 PM on Thursday. A Local Police patrol, engaged in citizen security duties, was called by the Coordination Center to attend the scene.
Upon arrival, several minors reported that their backpack, containing a mobile phone and other belongings, had been stolen. According to their account, while they were playing football, two men distracted them, and one of them took advantage of a moment of inattention to steal the backpack they had left on the ground.
The alleged thief fled on a bicycle. However, the geolocation system of the stolen mobile phone allowed officers to track the device to Pintor Teodoro Dublang street. There, the suspect was found hiding among hedges. Upon noticing the police presence, he attempted to escape but was intercepted and arrested by the patrol as the alleged perpetrator of a theft.
