The Armentia Forest in Vitoria-Gasteiz will be the venue on September 27th for the second race of the Women's BTT League, known as 3 Hiriburuak. This new competition seeks to promote and enhance the presence of women in mountain biking, welcoming both amateurs and registered racers in a privileged natural setting.
Ana López de Uralde explained during the presentation that "the 3 Hiriburuak event was created with the objective of boosting female participation in mountain biking and offering a different format, open to both registered and non-registered racers." The competition will kick off in San Sebastián on September 20th, continue in Vitoria-Gasteiz on September 27th, and conclude in Bilbao on October 12th.
Inspired by the successful 3 Hiriburuak women's pelota championship and supported by the Basque Government, the city councils of the three Basque capitals, and Laboral Kutxa, this league aims to "combine sport, nature, and equality." López de Uralde emphasized the significance of such initiatives in "encouraging women's sports and inspiring our girls and young women to participate, providing them with competition spaces, role models, visibility, and opportunities."
The competition format features relay teams, each comprising a maximum of four female riders from different regions of Spain. They will compete for three hours on a 3-kilometer circuit, where strategy will be crucial in deciding rider changes and maintaining momentum to complete as many laps as possible. To ensure a valid result, at least three members of each team must complete one lap.
