The Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council will incorporate specific spaces for scooters into the VGbiziz network. Addressing citizen demands, new facilities will be installed at the Bus Station and the Memorial, each capable of accommodating at least 15 scooters. These areas will be distinguished from bicycle parking through specific signage.
This initiative addresses a growing reality in urban mobility. In recent years, the scooter has become a significant mode of daily transport, particularly for short distances, increasing the need for adequate and secure parking.
Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Public Space and Neighborhoods, Beatriz Artolazabal, stated, “Scooters are now part of many people's daily mobility, and we must adapt our services accordingly. Users themselves have expressed the need for specific, secure places to leave them, and this action provides an initial response to that demand.”
The introduction of these new scooter spaces will be complemented by an expansion of bicycle capacity within the VGbiziz network, adding a total of 138 new spots across the Bus Station, Nueva Fuera, and Santa Bárbara. The total investment for this expansion is 72,587 euros. Nueva Fuera will gain between 15 and 20 additional spaces, and Santa Bárbara approximately 20 more. At the Bus Station, nearly a hundred new spots will compensate for the space allocated to scooters.
This reorganization will not only provide dedicated and secure areas for scooters but also maintain current bicycle capacity. “We aim to better organize these spaces and offer appropriate solutions for each type of vehicle. Bicycles and scooters are common alternatives for getting around Vitoria-Gasteiz today, and our goal is to facilitate their use with increasingly comprehensive, comfortable, and secure infrastructure,” added Artolazabal.
