Getaria's new self-managed youth space ready in Aldamar parkea

Getaria is set to inaugurate a new self-managed space for its youth. The adaptation works in the premises located in Aldamar parkea have concluded, with only a few final details remaining before the space is made available to the public. The City Council has organized open house events on October 17th and 18th, offering residents the opportunity to explore the new venue from the inside and witness the results of the work undertaken.

The new facility will feature, among other things, a spacious multipurpose hall and two rehearsal rooms. Additionally, two entrances-exits and two restrooms have been adapted, and the acoustics have been carefully considered to best accommodate the diverse uses planned for the space.

The creation of this space stems from a participatory process that analyzed the needs and desires of young people and local stakeholders. This initiative examined youth involvement, leisure habits, and future uses of the space to define its characteristics and potential. The aim is for the new venue to be open and dynamic, providing opportunities for both young people and local organizations to develop their initiatives and enrich the social and cultural life of Getaria.

The space aims to foster self-management by the Youth Assembly and Grakaren, while also serving as a hub for local social, trade union, and political organizations to meet, organize, and carry out their projects.

The construction works experienced a delay of approximately three months beyond the initial schedule, attributed to modifications in the sanitation network, water filtrations into the lower premises, and delays in the supply of various components. Nevertheless, the City Council has ensured a high-quality intervention, adhering to all regulations. The council expresses satisfaction with the final outcome.

The open house events will provide an opportunity to discover the new space, view the completed work, and learn about its future possibilities. Thus, Getaria gains a new venue for meeting, creating, rehearsing, and contributing to the community.
