This autumn, Zumaia will provide a new opportunity for aspiring sports monitors and coaches. The Zumaia City Council, in partnership with the Basque Federation of Sports Federations (EKFB), has organized the Sports Monitor Assistant (MADE) training. This initiative is aimed at individuals seeking to work in sports initiation or school sports who do not yet hold the required official qualification.
Driven by local interest, approximately 70 people have expressed their desire to participate, confirming that the course will be held in Zumaia. Successfully completing the MADE training will grant temporary certification until the end of November 2027, by which time the official qualification must be obtained.
The training program includes several stages. Firstly, an access test will be conducted on September 19th, in the morning, at the Aitzuri pilotalekua. Following this, the online course will commence on September 21st. The main in-person examination is scheduled for October 23rd in Zumaia, with a resit opportunity on November 13th for those who do not pass.
Registration is open until September 15th, with a matrícula fee of 80 euros. Participants who complete the course in Basque will receive a refund of the matrícula fee. Interested individuals can find detailed information and the registration form on the zumaia.eus website or the EKFB website, and should submit it to ekfb@euskalkirola.eus.
As the MADE training provides temporary certification, obtaining the official qualification will be necessary by the end of November 2027. However, after completing MADE, undertaking the specific technical training for the relevant sports modality will mean the common block is fulfilled, requiring only the specific block and practical training.
Additionally, sports professionals must consider two other mandatory training courses: First Aid-SOS (a 6-hour online course, costing 20 euros, free if completed in Basque) and LOPIBI – Awareness for the Care and Protection of Children in Sport (a 4-hour online course, costing 20 euros, free if completed in Basque). Both can be taken at any time of the year by registering at ekfb@euskalkirola.eus.
Furthermore, those who already possess the required qualification for their activity must register in the Registry of Professionals of Physical Activity and Sport before September 30th. MADE students, however, can only register after completing and passing the course.
