The Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council will host a meeting of the Alta Velocidad Vitoria-Gasteiz society on the upcoming Thursday, October 15th. The meeting will be chaired by José Antonio Santano, Secretary of State for Transport and Sustainable Mobility, and will include the participation of Mayor Maider Etxebarria, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Transport and Mobility, Adif, the Basque Government, and the Provincial Council of Álava.
During the meeting, the Complementary Informative Study for the Integration of the Railway in Vitoria-Gasteiz will be presented. The mayor recalled that this "document is key to advancing one of the city's main urban transformation projects." This action includes the arrival of high-speed rail and the renovation of the station on Dato street, linked to the first phase of the undergrounding project.
Etxebarria highlighted the importance of this council meeting as it will allow "to learn firsthand about the status of a strategic project that will strengthen our city's role as a reference point for mobility in Euskadi."
The new station project envisions a modern and functional facility that will preserve the historic building and add a large underground hall, new spaces for travelers, 500-meter covered platforms, and a new connection between the city center and the university campus. The future infrastructure is designed to handle a demand of up to 4.7 million travelers per year, which will multiply its current capacity fivefold.
