Zumaia experienced the warmest night on the peninsula, with five towns in Gipuzkoa ranking among the ten municipalities with the highest temperatures in Spain.

The beginning of May brought mild temperatures to Gipuzkoa, which persisted throughout the early morning hours. This led to five localities in the territory being among the ten with the highest maximum temperatures in Spain, with Zumaia leading the ranking.
According to data collected by the State Meteorological Agency, Aemet, the 22.4ºC recorded in Zumaia at 00:10 was the highest temperature registered during the night across Spain. A similar value was measured at Hondarribia airport (22.3ºC), placing it second in this ranking. In fourth place was another Gipuzkoan municipality, Irun, with 21.9ºC at midnight, just behind Navalvillar del Pela, in Badajoz (22ºC).
Additionally, Mutriku and Azpeitia, with 21.2º and 21º respectively, are the other two localities in the territory included in this table, which is more commonly topped by Andalusian, Extremaduran, or island municipalities. However, this past night, Gipuzkoa recorded the highest temperatures.
The strong southerly wind blowing across the territory since yesterday is the phenomenon explaining these maximum values during the past night. In the aforementioned municipalities, minimum temperatures also hovered around 19 degrees in the early morning.
However, according to forecasts, a meteorological change is expected for Saturday afternoon with the arrival of rain and thunderstorms. In fact, the Basque Meteorological Agency (Euskalmet) has activated a yellow alert for intense rainfall, between 14:00 and 18:00, across the entire territory.
Saturday's weather will be rainy and unstable. Gipuzkoa will not escape the rain. The weather will worsen from midday, as occasional morning showers become more stormy. Maximum temperatures will drop slightly, but the mercury will remain above 20 degrees this Saturday, both in coastal towns and inland. Very strong gusts of southerly wind are expected in the eastern part of Gipuzkoa, though they will lose strength as the day progresses. Similar to Friday, Euskalmet has activated a yellow alert for rain for the afternoon, from 14:00 to 22:00.
