Irun City Council has unveiled the new autumn offering for the 'Bizi Gogoz' program in 2026, aimed at individuals over 60 years of age. This initiative will provide free activities designed to strengthen interpersonal relationships. The presentation included delegate Josu Iguiñiz and workshop facilitators: Olga Grande, Patxi Pérez, Junkal Alfonso, and Ivan Aramayo (from Yeye Studios).
Launched in 2024, this program aims to foster creativity and promote the physical and mental well-being of seniors, responding to citizen demand gathered through the 2023 participatory budgets. The program seeks to extend activities beyond senior centers throughout the year. Last year, up to 165 seniors participated in the initiative.
Delegate Josu Iguiñiz emphasized that "through these workshops, we aim to stimulate lifelong learning and curiosity, encouraging peer participation and the creation of support networks. 'Bizi Gogoz' is one of the most established and successful programs within the area's activities, demonstrating that Irun is an active city and that seniors wish to continue enjoying their city".
During the spring, workshops such as '+60 ART: Women artists: Ruth Asawa', 'Sexuality (-ies) +60', an intergenerational sewing workshop, and the autobiographical writing workshop 'Once Upon a Time My Life' with writer Itziar Sistiaga were held. The latter will continue in the autumn, resuming sessions this Monday, September 14, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. For the coming months, the program has been strengthened with a wider range of workshops.
The workshop 'The Ideas Club', led by journalist Olga Grande, will run on Fridays from October 2 to November 20 (5:00 PM - 7:00 PM). It is designed for seniors to gain confidence in self-expression and enjoy an enriching group experience. It will take place at the Palmera Montero Civic Center's social space.
The Theatrical Improvisation Workshop, guided by actor Patxi Pérez, will be held at the Lekaenea social space on Thursdays from October 8 to November 26 (11:00 AM - 1:00 PM). Participants will be encouraged to experiment, transform, and engage their minds and bodies through theatrical techniques.
The workshop 'AI (Artificial Intelligence) without Fear' will be conducted by IT professionals from Yeye Studios every Wednesday in October (5:00 PM - 6:00 PM) in the cyber-aula of the Palmera Montero Civic Center. It will offer introductory training on AI and practical tools for daily use.
The +60 ART: 'Léon Bonnat' workshop, led by local artist Junkal Alfonso (from Artean), will take place on Tuesdays in November (5:00 PM - 7:00 PM) at the Palmera Montero Civic Center. It will provide cultural and artistic tools, focusing on the French realist painter Léon Bonnat. A trip to the Bonnat-Helleu Museum in Bayonne is scheduled for November 26.
All activities are free. Registration will be open from September 15 to 25 via the municipal website ([www.irun.org](http://www.irun.org)). If applications exceed available spots, a public lottery will be held on September 28 at 12:30 PM at the Palmera Montero Civic Center.
