Facing the critical situation experienced by the Cuban people due to the United States blockade, the organizations Kontseilu Sozialista and IAS, in collaboration with the Euskadi-Cuba association, have launched a campaign this week in Zumaia to collect basic products.

The organizers appeal to the solidarity of the working class of Euskal Herria, recalling that Cuba, as a socialist country, has provided selfless aid to different parts of the world for decades, and now is the time to return that support.
The initiative will unfold in two main phases throughout this week of April. From Monday to Friday, collections will take place at the Zumaia Institute and Zumaiena Ikastola. To conclude the campaign, this Saturday a reception point will be set up in front of the Eroski supermarket in Alai Auzategia during the morning, from 9:00 to 13:00.

Cuba, as a socialist country, has provided selfless aid to different parts of the world for decades, and now is the time to return that support.

Regarding the requested materials, special emphasis is placed on health and food items, with strict expiration date requirements to ensure their usefulness. Medicines expiring from June 2027 onwards are being collected, as well as medical instruments such as tweezers, scalpels, sutures, gloves, and condoms, along with food supplements like vitamins, minerals such as magnesium or iron, and Omega 3 fatty acids. For non-perishable foods (pasta, legumes, powdered milk, nuts, oil, and tomato bricks), these must have a best-before date after January 2027.
Additionally, the campaign includes the collection of hygiene materials such as sanitary pads, tampons, wipes, and diapers for both children and adults, and cleaning products like brooms, mops, cloths, and bottle cleaners. In the educational section, items such as pencils, notebooks, colored paints, and scissors are requested, explicitly stating that textbooks or encyclopedias will not be accepted. Finally, sports equipment will also be received, ranging from balls and rackets to bicycles and gear such as t-shirts, shorts, or soccer boots. From the socialist center of Zumaia, they express gratitude for any gesture of solidarity towards the Cuban people.
