The Moilaberri building, after serving various functions throughout its history, officially unveiled its latest use yesterday: the new Zumaia Tourism Office and a museum preserving the town's historical memory. At the inauguration ceremony, Mayor Iñaki Ostolaza highlighted the building's significance, not only as a former train station or health center but also for the individuals who lived or were born there, who were also invited.
Esti Irureta, the tourism technician for the Zumaia City Council, expressed her excitement about moving the Tourism Department, established 25 years ago, to a new facility. The new office will offer information not only about Zumaia but also about the surrounding valley and the Geopark, and will extend invitations to engage with other local services, such as the Flyschenea service being prepared in the old slaughterhouse.
The ground floor of the building will house areas for attending to visitors and residents, while the first floor features a museum showcasing Zumaia's industrial heritage. The presentation also mentioned the Algorri center, which will be complemented by the Flyschenea service, currently under development in the former slaughterhouse.
