After closing on March 31, the Getaria Municipal Library has undergone a significant transformation. Staff from the municipal brigade, the furniture assembly team, and library personnel worked collaboratively to modernize the space. The renovation included removing old furniture, installing new equipment, painting the walls, and completely reorganizing the library's collection.
The renovation project incurred a budget of 15,465.16 euros, funded through a specific allocation in the 2026 budget. The primary goal of this intervention was to make the library a brighter, more contemporary, and more accessible environment for all citizens.
Regarding the new organization, the children's and youth section retains its previous structure. However, a notable change has been implemented in the adult section: Basque narrative and poetry have been unified, allowing readers to easily find books from both genres under the same letter. Narrative sections in Spanish and other languages remain unchanged, with the most significant modification occurring in the reference books section.
The library's preserved collection has been divided into eight thematic sections: Txoko Morea, Care and Cooking, Journey (sea, travel, adventures...), World (politics, economy, philosophy, social organization, history...), Euskal Herria (history, politics, Basque language, tradition...), Natural Sciences, Culture, and Mountain and Sports.
The library has reopened its doors starting this Monday. Additionally, throughout April, informational sessions will be offered on the library's organization and the functioning of its online catalog: on Tuesday afternoons at 5:30 PM, and on Wednesday mornings at 11:30 AM. The Getaria Town Council expresses its gratitude for the efforts of all personnel involved in the renovation work and encourages citizens to use, explore, and enjoy this shared space.
