The 45th edition of the Donostia Classic cycling race will take place tomorrow, August 1st, offering a chance to see top-level cyclists on the roads of Gipuzkoa. The race will start and finish in Donostia, but will pass through numerous towns in Urola Kosta along the way, including Orio, Zarautz, Getaria, Zumaia, Zestoa, Azkoitia, and Azpeitia.
Cyclists will need to complete a total distance of 221.1 kilometers. They will have to ascend seven mountain passes and navigate two sprint zones. The race will enter the region via Orio around 11:35. Subsequently, they will pass through Zarautz (11:45), Getaria (11:50), and Zumaia (12:00), before leaving the region at Arroabea (12:05).
After leaving the region, the peloton will head towards Itziar and Deba to tackle the day's first climb: the Kalbario pass (3rd category), from Mutriku to Mendaro. Upon reaching Mendaro, they will turn towards Elgoibar, but instead of heading into the town, they will enter the Azkarate pass (another 3rd category climb), which connects Elgoibar and Azkoitia.
Having left Azkarate behind, the first cyclists are expected to reach the town center of Azkoitia around 13:05, and will take the road towards Azpeitia via the bypass. The organization anticipates the race reaching Azpeitia around 13:10. Cyclists will follow this entire route along the GI-2634 road, heading directly for the Urraki pass (2nd category), which, upon ascending, will see them leave the region and enter Tolosaldea.
