Azpeitia is set to host a significant gathering of classic Lambretta and Vespa scooters this coming Sunday, attracting approximately fifty of these iconic two-wheelers.

The event will feature a scenic ride through several towns in the Urola Erdia region, allowing riders to enjoy their historically rich machines, which still command a dedicated following.
Juanjo Agirre, a local resident of Azpeitia and owner of an impressive collection of Lambretta motorcycles, is the driving force behind this rally, which has been celebrating both brands since 2012.
Agirre anticipates that the gathering will bring together enthusiasts from Gipuzkoa, Bizkaia, and Navarra, all arriving in Azpeitia with their scooters.
The day's program will commence with registration at the main square in Azpeitia. Following this, participants will embark on a route that includes Errezil and Bidania, with a planned stop in Beizama for refreshments. The journey will then continue towards Nuarbe before returning to Azpeitia.
The event will culminate with a social gathering and meal at Baigera, providing an opportunity to discuss the excursion and perhaps engage in the age-old debate between Lambretta and Vespa aficionados.
Those gathered in Azpeitia's square will witness genuine automotive treasures, representing a time when these vehicles were essential for daily transport. Today, they have transitioned into collector's items for nostalgic motor enthusiasts.
Agirre, despite his current passion for scooters, admits he initially favored large-displacement motorcycles, having traveled extensively across Europe before a vision issue led him to his current hobby.
His entry into the scooter world was serendipitous. In 2002, a friend from Orio offered him a 1966 Lambretta 125LD, previously owned by Juan Orbegozo, a priest from Aia, who used to ride it around Azpeitia.
Agirre's collection features five Lambretta s, including models from the Amurrio factory like the Lince (1985), and spans from the D125 (1955), known as 'El Patinete,' to the LI series 3 (1966).
The Lambretta brand has strong ties to the Basque Country, with a plant established in Eibar in 1954 that manufactured and assembled the scooters until the early 1980s.
Agirre's passion has also taken him beyond Euskadi, including participation in the 2017 EuroLambretta event in Italy, where he had the chance to ride on the iconic Monza circuit.
At the Azpeitia event, Lambretta and Vespa scooters will once again grace the roads of Urola Erdia, recalling an era when they were key elements of transportation before being superseded by the car.
