Azpeitia will commemorate cultural diversity in the coming days, coinciding with the International Day. The City Council, through its Diversity and Coexistence Table, has organized various events to foster encounters among citizens and value the richness of a diverse society.
The main event will take place in Azpeitia's main square this Friday, May 22nd, from 17:30 to 20:00. This initiative arises from a citizen request and revives a previous event held in the municipality.
Throughout the afternoon, individuals from different countries and cultures will share their traditions, gastronomy, and customs with attendees. Currently confirmed participants include representatives from Venezuela, the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Senegal, Mali, Nigeria, and Honduras, alongside local associations and social organizations.
In addition to the cultural offerings, a dedicated space for children will feature traditional games from around the world, coloring activities, and other recreational proposals.
The City Council emphasizes that such gatherings help strengthen coexistence and build a more cohesive community, encouraging all citizens to visit the square and participate in the celebration.
Furthermore, the Azpeitia City Council launched an integration protocol in 2024 to provide guidance and support to newcomers. As part of the International Day of Cultural Diversity activities, a welcome session will be held on Wednesday, May 27th.
This session will invite individuals who have arrived in Azpeitia since November 2025. It will be the first of the year and will take place on the fifth floor of the City Hall starting at 15:15.
Additionally, a new educational welcome guide for families has been created, available in multiple languages. Its purpose is to offer families information about the Basque educational system and facilitate their integration process. The document covers different educational stages, languages, school operations, and enrollment procedures, as well as local cultural, leisure, and other services.
