Professionals from Osakidetza and cancer patients have climbed Aneto to raise awareness about the fight against the disease and promote the benefits of nature and physical activity. This initiative is part of the ‘A Pulmón’ project, driven by the Spanish Association of Lung Cancer Patients (AEACaP).
Dr. Raquel Casas, a medical oncologist at Osakidetza's Cruces University Hospital, along with a patient from the hospital and professionals and patients from other centers, participated in the project's culminating stage, which concluded with the ascent of Aneto, standing at 3,404 meters.
The expedition brought together patients and healthcare professionals with the aim of increasing the visibility of lung cancer and promoting physical activity, contact with nature, and mutual support as key elements for the well-being of those affected.
According to Dr. Raquel Casas, these types of initiatives highlight "the importance of engaging in outdoor activities as support for lung cancer patients," as well as their positive impact on physical and emotional well-being.
This participation continues the collaboration between Osakidetza's Cruces University Hospital and the ‘A Pulmón’ project. In 2024, Raquel Casas and Claudia Loidi, from the Thoracic Surgery department, took part in the stage held in Euskadi, with the ascent of Aizkorri.
