Azkoitia Honors Antonio Oteiza on His Birth Centenary

The City Council will hold a floral offering and an exhibition to commemorate the sculptor's 100th anniversary.

Tomorrow marks 100 years since the birth of sculptor Antonio Oteiza, and the Azkoitia City Council will honor him with a floral offering and an exhibition.

Tomorrow marks 100 years since the birth of sculptor Antonio Oteiza. To commemorate the centenary of his birth, the Azkoitia City Council will pay tribute to the artist. Specifically, a floral offering will be made next to the sculpture Ongi etorri, donated by Oteiza to the people of Azkoitia, on Julio Urkixo avenue.
Led by mayor Ana Azkoitia, council representatives will participate in the event, which begins at 18:00. Afterwards, they will visit the exhibition in his honor located at the Intsausti Palace.
The exhibition will be open throughout the weekend: tomorrow, from 18:00 to 20:00; Saturday, from 12:30 to 14:00 and from 18:00 to 20:00; and Sunday, from 12:30 to 14:00.

The artist, missionary, and adventurer, who had a "close connection" with Azkoitia.

Oteiza, who was a missionary and adventurer, maintained a close connection with Azkoitia. In 2008, he received the Golden Insignia from the council, and in 2023, he opened his last exhibition in Azkoitia, titled Serenus illuxit, alongside Vicente Molina.
