Aitzol Apalantza and Aritz Uzkudun have claimed victory in the Erniope Rallysprint, organized by the Ardatz Motorsport club, fulfilling a long-standing dream for motorsport fans after a fifteen-year hiatus.

The Erniope Rallysprint, organized by the Ardatz Motorsport club, today brought to fruition a long-held desire for motorsport enthusiasts, after a fifteen-year break. The race took place between Azpeitia, Errezil, and Bidania-Goiatz, commencing at 10:00 AM.
As predicted by the organizers, Aitzol Apalantza from Errezil emerged as the winner, with Aritz Uzkudun from Lasao as his co-driver, in their Hyundai 120N Rally 2 car. The pair won the first stage, but a puncture in the second caused them to lose significant time. However, they managed to dominate the third stage again, and thanks to a penalty incurred by the duo of Iker Zinkunegi and Denis Astigarraga in the final stage, they ultimately secured the victory.
The competition followed the same route last used in 2011, starting in front of the Lapatx landfill and finishing in Bidania-Goiatz. Drivers had to complete a 13.7-kilometer course over four stages: two uphill in the morning and two downhill in the afternoon. Apalantza and Uzkudun finished 5.9 seconds ahead of the second-place team. In third place were Alberto Marcos and Garazi Beitia, driving a BMW M3 Alpina, one minute and nine seconds behind the winners.
The record set by Gorka Apalantza in 2007, with Andres Vilariño as co-driver, for the downhill stage was seven minutes and seven seconds. Now, his brother, Aitzol Apalantza, has improved that mark alongside Uzkudun, completing the downhill stage in exactly seven minutes.
In total, 46 drivers and as many co-drivers participated in today's race, with half of them hailing from the region. The awards ceremony will be held in Azpeitia's Perez Arregi square around 8:00 PM.
