These new installations are part of the rural ATM network within the Berosi program, an initiative developed in collaboration with Kutxabank, aiming to improve access to basic financial services in rural municipalities of Euskadi.
The rollout of this network began in May 2026 with the installation of the first ATM in Artzentales (Bizkaia). Now, the Alavese municipalities of Lantarón and Zambrana, along with the Gipuzkoan ones of Leaburu and Albiztur, are being added, continuing a project that plans for the installation of ATMs in a total of 38 municipalities across Araba, Bizkaia, and Gipuzkoa.
The initiative is part of actions aimed at improving the availability of basic services in rural areas, reducing access disparities compared to urban environments, and enhancing the quality of life for residents in small municipalities.
Close access to cash remains a necessity for a significant portion of the population, especially for the elderly and those with mobility issues. Having an ATM in one's own municipality allows for everyday transactions without needing to travel to other towns and helps maintain essential services for daily life in rural areas.
ATMs in Elburgo and Peñacerrada in Araba; Elantxobe, Forua, and Muxika in Bizkaia; and Ezkio-Itsaso in Gipuzkoa are currently undergoing installation.
Berosi is part of the Euskadi Rural Development Strategy 2030 and includes actions aimed at ensuring the availability of essential services in small municipalities and promoting their social and economic development.
