The Plazida Otaño library in Zizurkil is celebrating its tenth anniversary as a vital cultural and social hub for the town, with a series of commemorative events that began on April 22.

Since its opening in 2016, the new library in Zizurkil has become an important space and meeting point for the municipality. The town council has highlighted that it has been an «active place and an excellent point of interest» for citizens, functioning as a gathering center. Events to celebrate its tenth anniversary are being held these days.
The library was created to serve users of all ages, and over the years, it has succeeded in attracting users from across Tolosaldea and all of Gipuzkoa. On average, the Plazida Otaño receives about 100 users daily.
It has transformed into a social and cultural space that fosters creativity and promotes literature, and its location in Joxe Arregi square makes it accessible to all citizens.
Anniversary celebrations began yesterday, with an author presenting the book Zaldi bat, assisted by another author. Celebrations continue today: in the morning, the 35th issue of a magazine published by a cultural association will be presented, and in the afternoon, there will be a storytelling session by a group of storytellers.
Other towns in the region have also organized activities for Book Day. A group of readers in Tolosa has proposed a «rebellious protest action»: to take to the streets and read on Book Day. This anonymous group has named itself Poetic Vandalism and has called for the social power of reading to be recognized in the public square. In Alegia, a game has been prepared to match books with their authors, and an exhibition will be open to the public from April 20 to 24. In Lizartza, the local school has organized a book exchange in the square.
