The Enroke Chess Club of Tolosa, established three years ago, has secured promotion to the Gipuzkoa Second Division in its second competitive season, following matches held at the Usabal sports center.

The Enroke Chess Club of Tolosa, founded three years ago, has been competing in the Gipuzkoa League for the past two seasons. Although they did not participate in their first year, they have achieved a significant milestone this year by earning promotion to the Gipuzkoa Second Division.

The team was in the Gipuzkoa Third Division, the basic level, and managed to get promoted after an exciting finish. In chess matches, four players from each team participate, with each playing one game against an opponent from the other team. The league typically runs from January until the end of March.
According to club members, they inquired in December about who wished to participate, and twelve members signed up. They decided who would play in each match based on individual schedules and the opponent. Home games were played at the Usabal sports center, and while there is no fixed duration, matches usually last a maximum of four hours, though they rarely extend that long.
The league was divided into two phases, with two groups of ten teams each. The top two teams from each group qualified for the next phase. Tolosa finished first in their group, with Zarautz coming in second. In the other group, Beraun D and Beraun C qualified. After playing the mini-league among the four teams, Tolosa and Beraun D ended up tied. Although they were unsure how the tie would be broken, Tolosa was ultimately awarded the league victory.
Looking ahead to next year, the club is open to welcoming new participants. Club members have stated their intention to retain the players who participated this year. They meet every Friday at the cultural center at 5:30 PM, with around twenty members attending. Additionally, about a dozen children also attend on Friday afternoons.
Since its inception, the club has organized various activities. Besides meeting on Fridays to play chess, those who wish to learn more also have the opportunity. Throughout the academic year, they organize several events, with the first usually coinciding with the Berazubi festivities. Last September, they collaborated with the Buru Bihotzez association to organize an initiative focused on memory exercises to raise awareness about Alzheimer's disease. Furthermore, the club formed a boat to participate in the inter-association regatta and also organized a championship at the Gure Kaiola association.
Club members have highlighted that their most important championship takes place in June, the San Juan Championship, coinciding with the San Juan festivities. This year, it will be held on June 13th, and details about the championship will be disseminated through the club's social media channels. For inquiries about the championship or Friday sessions, interested individuals can contact the club by writing to tolosaxake@gmail.com.
