Ahead of the official start of the San Joan festivities, Tolosa is hosting a wide array of sports competitions this weekend, primarily aimed at young participants. Throughout the morning, swimming, handball, football, and chess have been the main attractions, with events scheduled to continue until Sunday afternoon.
At the Usabal sports center's swimming pool, the Gipuzkoa Swimming Championship for the alebin and infantil categories is underway. Heats and finals will take place in the morning and afternoon, with teams from across the province participating, including the Tolosaldea IKT club. A total of 33 swimmers from the region are involved. Due to the competition, the indoor pool will be closed for the entire weekend.
On the courts of the same sports center, the Tolosa CF handball section has organized the 17th San Joan Championship. Separate tournaments for infantil girls and boys have been held, featuring four teams: Tolosa CF, Leizaran, Urola, and Uharte, who competed against each other.
The football section of Tolosa CF has organized the 11th Urtzi Gurrutxaga Memorial football tournament in Berazubi. Twelve teams from the alebin category are participating, with four of them hailing from the local region: Tolosa CF, Urdiña Txiki, and Tolosana from Tolosa, and Intxurre from Alegia. The remaining teams include Reala, Euskalduna, Ordizia, Beasain, Lazkao, Zarautz, Behobia, and San Martzial. Teams are divided into three groups, and after playing group stage matches in the morning, the finals for the League and Cup categories will take place in the afternoon, at 5:00 PM and 5:45 PM respectively.
Finally, in the Trianguloa square, organized by the Enroke Chess Club of Tolosa, the 3rd San Joan Chess Championship is being played. Divided into two categories, the morning session saw players of all ages compete in a Swiss system tournament over nine rounds, with a total of 66 participants. From 4:00 PM onwards, it will be the turn of the under-14s, with a six-round tournament featuring a 5+3 minute time control.
